An Optimal Control with Energetic Criteria for DC Drives

Abstract: Actually variable speed drives with DC machines are operated using conventional speed and current regulating loops. This control provides a good dynamic response and stationary behaviour, but it does not say anything about the conversion efficiency. It is very well-known that in the transient behaviour, as startings, stoppings or reversings, the efficiency of the energy conversion is diminished down to the value smaller than 70 percent, while in the stationary state it is greater. The objective of the paper is to develope a new control, of optimal type. This optimal control must minimize the energy which will be consumed over the dynamic periods. The synthesis of the optimal control law is accomplished with the experimental results, via the simulation procedure, and a proposal for the implementation.

Abstract: The paper deals with the main problems to solve in order to simulate precisely the behavior of complex power systems with mixed elements (power components and digital regulation devices). The main features of an efficient simulation tool are described. They are focussed on modern adjustable speed drives. Finally, the simulation of an industrial application of an induction motor fed by a three-level inverter tuned with a DTC (Direct Torque Control) is presented in details.

On H-infinite Control of an Induction Motor

Abstract: This paper shows a new approach to induction motor control. Input-output linearization, based on differential geometric methods, is proposed to decouple rotor flux and speed. H-infinite controller is used to a linearized dynamics of an induction motor. This approach permits to take into account induction motor parameter variation and perturbations. The ability of such a control system to perform the tracking problem and disturbance rejection is presented by extensive simulation results.
