Equivalent circuit parameter extraction methods for piezoelectric transformers
 By Jack FORRESTER

Abstract: Three methods for extracting the equivalent circuit components of a piezoelectric transformer areproposed. Each of the methods is presented in detail, describing both the measurement setup and thealgorithm used for extraction. A full comparison of the implementation complexity and extractionaccuracy is performed using experimentally measured data. Finally, the performance of each techniquein the presence of measurement noise is explored. The comparison presented allows the reader todetermine which technique is most suitable for their application.

Abstract: The temperature dependent internal gate resistance Rgi of MOS devices is suitable for online Tj acquisition in operating application circuits. Recent publications have shown various measurement approaches and tested them for specific DUTs. In this work the issues arising when applying the Rgi-method to DUTs with a low Rgi and to SiC MOSFETs are described. If a device exhibits a low Rgi the measurement error due to parasitic resistance becomes relevant. For SiC MOSFETs frequency dependent effects, which can presumably be attributed to charge trapping at the gate oxide, have a significant influence on the measured data.

Abstract: Wide area monitoring, protection and control (WAMPAC) has now become an essential criteria to run a power system infrastructure. To accomplish this using synchrophasor technology, a wide range of PMU designs are available in literature but are very costly due to embedding high speed processor in it to run the complex algorithms. We present here an approach to measure the power system frequency and phase angle using a raspberry pi board to design a low cost PMU. The algorithm is based on zero crossing detection method. Problems found in measurements using edge detection by raspberry pi are solved by enabling the detection of both rising and falling edge. The circuitry, programming logic and results of prototype are discussed here.

Abstract: The central control of MMC becomes demanding in computation power and communication bandwidth as the number of submodules increase. Distributed control methods can overcome these bottlenecks. In this paper, a simple distributed control method together with synchronization of modulation carriers in the submodules is presented. The proposal is implemented on a lab-scale MMC with asynchronous-serial communication on a star network between the central and local controllers. It is shown that the proposed control method works satisfactorily in the steady state. The method can be applied as is to MMCs with any number of submodules per arm.

Abstract: This paper presents a novel wireless solution to detect radial micro-vibrations of DC Smart Machine. MEMS accelerometers are associated to the transmission channel with Arduino Uno and transmitter ESP8266 as wireless link. Known vibrations injected on DC machine shaft are characterized. Experimental results are presented using conceived Human Machine Interface (HMI).
