Abstract: For a piezoelectric motor operation a specific and individual power source is necessary. A DC to AC converter, which has different topologies, is used to apply the electrical excitation in order to generate the stator vibrations in resonance. In this paper, four power converter circuits are described and analyzed, using a numerical simulation. The different topologies are compared according to the output current, voltage and power requirements.

Abstract: Piezoelectric actuators are charcterized by non-linear dynamics and high frequency oscillations. The paper shows that converter with current supply properties yields ideal conditions for feeding piezoelectric actuators. Inertialess charge control can be obtained by realizing sliding mode operation. This control conception is the basis for vibration damping with piezoelectric actuators up to the range of some Kilohertz. Investigations show that energy saving solutions can be realized by applying the principle of mechanical absorbers with adaptive control strategies.
