Abstract: The Grenoble public transport system has purchased a series of twenty tramways built by Alsthom in its La Rochelle factory. These low-floor vehicles are fitted with electrical equipment developed by Alsthom in Villeurbanne. This equipment's main characteristics are a static converter, a flugen cooled chopper, continuous conjugation between recuperation and rheostatic braking and a microprocessor train control unit. With the introduction of this microprocessor control unit, it has been possible to define the train's automatic operation with a great degree of flexibility and it could provide precious help for maintenance.

Abstract: The paper describes a SCR switch control device incorporated in a linear induction motor (LIM) drop hammer drive system. Details of the adopted solution for the LIM-driven drop hammer, of the SCR switch device for the bidirectional control of LIM and also of the corresponding experimental results are given.
