Abstract: New high energy double layer capacitors provide short term electrical energy storage not' available so far. Combined with batteries they can provide better energy storage systems with higher short term power capability. Different circuits for load sharing between a battery and a capacitor are discussed. A test system for automobile engine starting has been implemented and the measurements from the system are presented and discussed, demonstrating the better performance of the combined battery and capacitor system.

Abstract: New applications in induction heating, in high and medium frequencies (50 to 500kHz) require an adaptation of the load to the source which feeds it, in the case of very high power. These transfom1ers transmit the whole reactive energy of the inductor whose consequence is to get current reaching up to 3000A. This article describes possible choices as well as simulation and test conditions of a type of transforruer whose losses may represent only 5% of the power transmitted at 200 kHz. The method of investigation consists of mixing tests and 2 dimension computation to deterruine characteristically tem1s. Active power reached is 240 kW and apparent power is more than 1 MVA.
