![]() | A power distribution hybrid for space applications
By C. Carriero; G.F. Volpi
Abstract: The growing complexity of electronics systems in space applications lead to the use of sophisticated Hi-Tech
devices, some of which never tested in the space environment. Higher complexity means, on the other hand,
loose of reliability. Reliability is a driving factor for space programmes and then protection strategies must
be applied in order to meet the mission requirements. In the frame of the Laben Mass Memory Project a
hybrid circuit, composed of 11 latching current limiters, has been developed to distribute the +3.3V supply
voltage to SDRAM memory chips. The hybrid, thought to provide latch up protection, opens the way to the
extensive use of Hi-Tech, low cost devices also for space applications.

![]() | DC to DC converters for the international space station
By F. Belloni; P. Maranesi; M. Riva
Abstract: The Active Bridge-Push Pull converter (ABPP) with phase shift control adopted for the European
payloads in the remote power distribution assembly on board the International Space Station (ISS) is
described. The paper also considers its scaled down version, well suited for multiple low-voltage
outputs. Dynamic models of the converters put into evidence their robustness and suitability to supply
constant power loads, f.i. further voltage regulation circuits.
