Abstract: A paper presents mechanical flax processing peculiarities in a flax layer former unit and a breaking unit of flax breaking machine. As result of investigation a block diagram of flax flow control is structured. A digital model of process is made according to the block diagram. Model research shows necessity to use flax layer thickness feedback together with a proportional controller for processing automation. Flax layer thickness closed loop system lets to avoid layer thickness overshoot that may be a reason of breaking unit fouling by concentrated quantity of flash. It is proposed to create an algorithm of breaking machine digital control using simulation results.

Abstract: The possibility of frequency-controlled drive (FCD) application in hoisting gears is considered with taking example by a gantry container crane and an elevator. The results of energy consumption and power losses calculations for conventional drives and FCD are given. High efficiency of FCD is shown.

Abstract: The paper deals with optimisation of energy consumption during start in soft-start systems based on thyristor voltage converter and induction motor (TVC–IM). It is shown that the definition of optimum voltage ramp provides the 10-15% reducing of losses in compare with direct start. The method of voltage ramp optimisation based on genetic algorithm is proposed.

Abstract: Replacing the mechanical line shaft, which is necessary for the synchronous drive of the printing units of rotary offset printing presses, through an “electronic line shaft” consisting of highly precise speed- and angle-controlled AC motors, the decoupled control of web forces and the so-called cutoff register error has become feasible. Waste paper is considerably reduced and the machine operation is made easier.

Abstract: The paper deals with design of a tension control strategy for hot strip finishing mill. The observer based feedback control of the tension and loop angle with dynamic model based feed-forward of the looper drive torque is designed and compared with conventional control system. The advantages of the proposed structure are shown. Considerable dynamic improvement is attained both to the reference input as well as to the disturbances.

Abstract: The article discusses pump properties at constant head of water as a function of variable rotational speeds. A dependency approximating the pump efficiency as a function of rotational speed was determined. The criterion for optimum control of pump work was defined. A control system was determined based on the criterion for the optimum value of the pump efficiency. A control method following the leading pump was defined. An example of application using the optimum control method was described.

Abstract: The modernization of the electrical automation, of the machines from the surface carbon exploitation, represents a continuous preoccupation for specialists within the respective exploitations and for those collaborators from the high grade learning institutes and experienced specialist from firms witch work in domain. This paper presents some of the main aspects regarding the use of programmable logic controller (PLC) for driving and control of great capacity excavator. In the system’s development there are used programmable logic controllers made by the German group of firms Moeller witch is one of the main manufacturers of electric energy distribution equipments, industrial and civil automations.

Abstract: Actually, one of the most important requirements in a high speed machine tool is related to an extraordinary rapid response together with a zero position error; so that, an important productivity level would be achieved taking into account both quantity and quality of the produced elements. The work presented in this paper aims to reach an optimal positioning of a linear permanent magnet synchronous motor (typically used in machine tools) with a relatively small response time.
