![]() | Novel IGBT Controller for Soft Starting and Speed Regulation of Wound Rotor Asynchronous Machine
By Shoihet A., Slonim M.A.
Abstract: The new topology of controller based on IGBT for soft starting and speed regulation of wound rotor asynchronous machine is proposed. The article contains the detail description of the topology. The operation of the controller with feedback was verified on 1.5kW asynchronous machine. Experimental results of soft starting and speed regulation are shown.

![]() | Optimised Power Flow on Wind Power Plants with the Doubly Fed Induction Generator
By Rabelo B., Hofmann W.
Abstract: In this work the efficiency of the electrical part of a wind generation system is studied. A wound rotor induction machine is used with two back-to-back converters on the rotor circuit in an slip power recovery scheme. The slip control results in an operating speed range that suits the wind energy generation requirements. The vector-controlled doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) enables the decoupling between active and reactive power as well as between torque and power factor. The losses in the machine copper and those originating in the converters are calculated and a loci of the optimal points inside the operation range is derived. Therefore, besides the optimal speed tracking for maximal wind energy conversion, an optimal control strategy for the two converters is developed. This strategy aims to minimise the electrical losses and is based on the control of the reactive power flow of the system. The harmonic losses as well as those of the core and the LC-filter have not been taken into consideration.

![]() | Power Electronics for Pulsed Power Application
By Bauer P., de Haan S.W.H., Ferreira J.A., van Noord M.G.J.
Abstract: Pulse power applications is one of the field using techniques of power electronics. Based on requirements concerning energy and pulse time a circuit topology of the pulse generator has been proposed and the components of the circuits have been considered in more detail. Applications of pulse power are surveyed too.

![]() | Power-Factor Compensation in Electrical Traction 25kV, 50Hz
By Vranka M., Boroš T., Ráèek V.*, Flajžík P.
Abstract: In recent years the proliferation of non-linear loads has led to the development of active filters designed to eliminate current harmonics from the power supply network. This paper presents the results of simulation and measurements of a single phase parallel active filter dedicated mainly for an alternate electric traction 25kV, 50Hz.

![]() | Reliability Aspects of Electronic Ballast for Fluorescent Lamps
By Áè V. | |
Abstract: This paper deals with the reliability problem of the electronic ballasts used in lighting systems with fluorescent lamps. The reliability of electronic ballasts has been questioned since their introduction over ten years ago. By long term usage, it is documented the ballasts failure rate less than 1% during five years of operation in point of their electronic elements reliability. The ballasts reliability consists in a reliability of electronic elements and in fatal influences of an implementation surrounding. The possibility to improve the electronic ballasts reliability depends mainly on reduction of a power supply disturbance frequency and on increase of a fluorescent tubes lifetime. In this paper, the presented results follow from long time analysis of reliability aspects and failure mechanisms of the electronic ballasts under the various application conditions. The results give hints towards improving the quality of new designed ballasts.

![]() | Sensitivity Evaluation of Thyristor to Parasites - Principle of Study Method
By Masmoudi N., Sellami F.
Abstract: A study method of faults linked to parasitic impulsion's in thyristor systems is proposed. In the proposed method, the control signals is presented in vector from allowing the generalization of the parasitic signals. The evaluation of the probability of correct functioning thus becomes systematic both in the study of the evolution of the system and in the detection of faulty functioning.

![]() | Soft Switched High Frequency Inverter in Complex Resonance Applied for an Emission Control in Diesel Engine
By Kubota S., Hatanaka Y.*
Abstract: This paper describes a soft switched high frequency inverter applied for an emission control in diesel engine. In the proposed inverter, the stable operation is realized in spite of varying load. In addition, as experimental results, it is proved that the proposed PM reduction system is effectively reducing PM.
