Abstract: Four different engine-generator concepts with variable-speed operation of the internal combustion engine are analyzed regarding relevant performance criteria. The topologies under investigation have an internal energy storage in order to mitigate the impact of load steps. The performance criteria address the required rating of the power converters in stationary operation, after load steps and to deliver short-circuit current.
