![]() | Flexible Arrangement of Static Converters for Grid ConnectedWind Energy Conversion Systems - Paper
By F. B. Grigoletto; H. Pinheiro
Abstract: This paper presents a new flexible arrangement of static converters for grid connected Wind Energy
Conversion Systems (WECS). The proposed arrangement uses three phase voltage fed back-to-back mass
produced power converter modules with reconfiguration switches. The main features of the proposed
flexible arrangement are: (i) expanded reactive power capability limits, (ii) high efficiency mainly under low wind conditions where the active power is reduced, and (iii) low current harmonic content. In addition, a detailed description of the operating modes, as well as the grid, generator and circulating current controllers design are given. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the good performance and
flexibility of the proposed arrangement.

![]() | The Comparison of Polish Grid Codes to Certain European Standards and Resultant Differences for WPP Requirements - Paper
By W. Jarzyna; P. Lipnicki
Abstract: Grid Codes of Transmissions System Operators (TSO) put large demands on the currently installed Wind Power Plants (WPPs). Nowadays WPP are treated similarly as conventional power stations. They should work even if operating conditions deviate from nominal values, e.g. when during a
fault the voltage at the connection bus drops nearly to zero. The paper describes grid codes distinguishing requirements of active and reactive power generation and Fault Ride Through characteristics. Among the described standards Polish, German
and Danish and in some cases British and Norwegian requirements
are mentioned. The differences between the standards are
reviewed and are referenced to Polish grid regulations. Discussion
supplements certain results of the laboratory research.

![]() | Assessment-Based Flux Trajectory Optimization for Offshore Line-Side and Machine-Side Converters - Paper
By Daniel Meyer and Carsten Heising; Volker Staudt and Andreas Steimel
Abstract: A novel approach to flux-based control, ’assessmentbased flux trajectory optimization’ (AFO), is presented and
analysed, which directly takes the properties of the converter into account. It seamlessly integrates stationary operation, slow and fast dynamics. The optimal flux trajectory is defined, based
on the relatively few possibilities resulting from the discrete switching states of the converter and their combination on an instantaneous basis. Within each control cycle, optimal switching states for the next control interval are selected. The criterion for optimality bases on weighted assessment rules in time domain. The paper gives basic assessment rules and resulting flux curves for stationary and dynamic operation.

![]() | The Transition Process of Wind Turbine Based on Squirrel-Cage Induction Generator When Voltage Sag and Its Low Voltage Ride-Through Method - Paper
By Xiangwu Yan; Zheng Chen; Liming Yang; Ruoying Guo; Yuzhao Liang
Abstract: This paper reveals two typical phenomena of Squirrel-Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) based wind
turbine during the voltage sag, such as asynchronous induction generator going into stall and the shocks of the
electromagnetic torque with polarity reversal, the result shows low voltage ride-through(LVRT) capability of SCIG
wind turbine is very poor. A method of using a stator series resistance device is proposed for SCIG based wind
turbine LVRT. Both detailed analysis and simulation results demonstrate it is an safety and effective method to
ensure the SCIG based wind turbine against the impact of the PCC voltage sag, and provide maximum active and
reactive power to support the grid stability and security.
