![]() | Current Balancing Strategy in Parallel-Connected Legs of Power Inverters
By Josep POU, Jordi ZARAGOZA, Gabriel CAPELLA, Igor GABIOLA, Salvador CEBALLOS, Eider ROBLES
Abstract: The parallel connection of inverter legs is a way to increase the output currents and thus the converter rated power. The connection is made by inductors and a critical issue is to achieve balanced currents among the legs. Circulating currents produce additional losses and stress to the power devices of the converter. Therefore, they should be controlled and minimized. An efficient technique to achieve such a balance is presented in this paper. The proposed strategy does not include proportional-integral (PI) controllers and parameter tuning is not required. The exact control action to achieve current balance is straightforward calculated and applied. Simulation and experimental results are shown in this paper to verify efficiency of the proposed balancing method.

![]() | Exact Predictive Direct Power Control of Three-Level NPC Converters for Wind Power Applications
By Estanis OYARBIDE, Abelardo MARTÃNEZ-ITURBE, Sergio AURTENECHEA, Miguel Ãngel RODRÃGUEZ-VIDAL, Eduardo LALOYA
Abstract: The Predictive Direct Power Control (P-DPC) strategy computes the application times of several voltage-vectors included in a predefined sequence. Until now only approximate solutions of the P-DPC have been presented. This contribution proposes two improvements to the P-DPC: the exact solution of the control problem and the fastest possible transient.

![]() | The Efficiency of Three-level Active NPC Converter for Different PWM Strategies
By Dan FLORICAU, Guillaume GATEAU, Alexandre LERREDE, Remus TEODORESCU
Abstract: The efficiency of power conversion is an important factor to design static converters. The paper is focused on the calculus of total losses of 3L-NPC and 3L-Active-NPC converters for different PWM strategies. The calculus was made in the most critical operating points when certain switches have the biggest total losses. Different modulation functions have been elaborated to calculate conduction losses. These are characteristic for each device depending on the structure’s type and on the control strategy. Using these functions medium and effective values of conduction currents have been calculated and also validated with PSIM simulations. Some experimental results are also shown in order to validate the doubling of the apparent switching frequency using the 3L-ANPC topology.
