![]() | Predictive Direct Torque Control of an Induction Motor fed by a Matrix Converter
By J. Rodriguez; J. Pontt; R. Vargas; P. Lezana; U. Ammann; P. Wheeler; F. Garcia
Abstract: A new control strategy for a Matrix Converter feeding an induction machine is presented. Simple discrete
models of the machine and the converter are used to predict the behavior of torque and flux. The
switching state that optimizes the value of a quality function is selected. The proposed strategy considers
the discrete nature of control processors and power converters, presenting a different approach to achieve
control. Results confirm a very good motor performance with an extremely simple and versatile control
method.

![]() | A Direct Predictive Control of Shunt Active Power Filters Using Multicell Converter
By Francois DEFAY; Ana M. LLOR; Maurice FADEL
Abstract: Active power filter represents an interesting device to produce a clean electrical network. In this paper,
a filter is proposed using a multicell inverter. A direct and predictive control will be applied. The use
of this kind of inverters, which proposes more than two output voltage levels, allows to increase the
bandwidth of the active filter. This benefit is particularly interesting to reduce the switching frequency
on semiconductors. So this device could be attractive for huge power installation or high frequency
network. The control of multicell inverter proposed in this paper is made on a original frame, the voltage
composed frame which allows to have a particular approach of the inverter control.

![]() | Modulation Strategies for a Mutually Commutated Converter System in Wind Farms
By MEIER Stephan; NEE Hans-Peter; NORRGA Staffan
Abstract: A novel mutually commutated converter system consisting of a voltage source converter and a cycloconverter connected by a medium-frequency transformer is adapted for the power collection and conversion in large wind farms. Different modulation strategies based on space vectors are described and evaluated with regard to the very restrictive constraints on the modulation and commutation of the thyristor valves in the cycloconverter. This paper shows that a feasible and effective modulation strategy can be found in order to provide the desired reference voltage vector during every single modulation interval and under all operating conditions. The proposed current clamping control strategy is based on stopping the gate pulses of the conducting thyristor valve during a certain dead-time whenever the current in the corresponding phase leg becomes zero.
