   Design of Induction Machine with External Rotor for Flywheel

Abstract: This paper describes an induction machine with external rotor to drive a flywheel for energy storage. A software programme was created to design an induction machine. A combined circuit model and field model is presented to compute electrical parameters. A transverse cross section of induction machine and its performance curves are shown.

 
   Reversible Modification of the No-Load Voltage of a Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Abstract: The Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPM) considered is a very high-efficient motor with permanent magnets buried in the rotor below a squirrel cage. In order to reach high-efficiency, the air-gap flux density was chosen relatively high. To study the effect of the air-gap flux density on the behavior of the machine, different methods to achieve a reduction of the no-load voltage are investigated. To achieve this reduction, three possible modifications are presented. The first possibility is to increase the air-gap. Another solution would be to take away some magnetic material. The third and last possibility presented is to add an iron plate on each side of the rotor to short-circuit a part of the flux created by the magnets, i.e. increasing axial leakage. The solution of adding extra iron plates is chosen and plates have been mounted on the rotor. Measurements show good agreement with calculations and validate the model used to estimate axial leakage. The tested method is the one that gives the highest possibility of reversibility.
