![]() | State of the Art and Developments of Medium Voltage Converters – An Overview
By Steffen Bernet | |
Abstract: This paper describes the function and basic characteristics of state of the art high power semiconductors with active turn-off capability. Furthermore it gives an overview about commercially available PWM medium voltage converters for drives. To derive specific converter characteristics Three Level-Neutral Point Clamped-Voltage Source Converters, Three Level-Flying Capacitor-Voltage Source Converters, Four Level-Flying Capacitor-Voltage Source Converters and Series Connected H-Bridge-Voltage Source Converters are compared for a 2.3kV and a 4.16kV drive. Finally recent technological developments and their applications in industry and energy systems are discussed.
