Abstract |
Progress in manufacturing solid state devices with
high-voltage and high-current ratings promises more power
electronic converter applications in high power systems. On
the other hand, such devices when used to build multi-level
converters could deliver higher power handling capabilities
at converter level. Series andlor parallel connected multilevel
converter modules could further increase the power
level being controlled by the overall system. In this paper,
multi-modular multi-level converter systems are discussed
It is revealed that at low carrier frequency range, and for a
system of 6-module 5-level converters in parallel, pulsewidth
modulation (PWM) results in higher total harmonic
distortion (THD) of the line-line voltage output waveform
when compared with the fundamental carrier frequency
phase-shift controlled counterpart. |
