Abstract |
In many parts of the world and certainly in Europe large
areas exist where the wind resources are good or even very
good and the grid is relatively weak due to a small
population. In these areas the capacity of the grid can very
often be a limiting factor for the exploitation of the wind
resource. Especially the voltage level and fluctuations can
limit the exploitation.
Grid reinforcement can be very expensive and difficult.
Therefore other ways of making it possible to increase the
amount of wind power that can be absorbed by the grid are
being investigated. One of the technologies that can be used
is buffering of energy by means of a battery storage. This
option is investigated in the paper. It is shown how the
power from a wind turbine can be controlled so that the
power quality from the combined system is improved. The
further development and application of energy storage
combined with wind energy is a interesting option for
facilitating the integration of wind energy in the power
system. |
