Abstract   The loss of power supply reduces productivity and loses both revenue and, even more important, credibility. Power outages are one of the serious threats to an on-line system, which contains a considerable number of critical equipment that need to be operating all the time. However, maintaining commercial power and, at the same time, obtaining a clean power supply can be achieved with the help of a UPS system. This paper presents a new single-phase on-line UPS system configuration that enjoys the following advantages; constant frequency operation, zero-voltage switching, and input power factor correction. The principle of operation, different modes of operation, switching strategy, and control circuit are presented. The simulation of the proposed system is carried out using Matlab/Simulink, where components’ voltages and currents, and harmonic spectra are presented and discussed. Experimental results obtained from a 500W prototype are also presented to verify the performance of the proposed configuration.
