Abstract   This paper describes the field oriented control of a High Speed Induction Motor (HSIM) with a Two-Level Voltage Source Converter (2L-VSC) and an LC-filter for a 420V low voltage high speed drive. The filter design procedure to reduce the torque ripple as well as the model of LC-filter combined with the HSIM in rotor flux oriented frame is presented. A modified decoupling circuit and the corresponding current regulator parameters are proposed to improve the dynamic performance of a high speed drive connected to a 2L-VSC via an LC-filter. The overall system consisting of HSIM, 2L-VSC, LC-filter and a discrete control system is simulated to study the performance of the current and speed control loops.
