A current limiter device is designed and tested for the railway electrical network 25kV-50Hz, and the grid network 20kV-50Hz. It is based on static switches issued from the latest light triggered thyristor technology which are triggered to assume a by-pass on an inductive impedance in the normal status, and are switched off when a fault current is detected. This device allows to reduce the short circuitcurrent fault in the line and the switchgear after the delay of the first half wave period. The design is focused on different technical points: high reliability level using light triggered thyristors, critical switch off conditions for the highest short circuit current, air cooled heat pipe systems, low conduction losses, simple assembly. The test results are discussed for the full voltage and short circuit current. |
