Abstract |
This paper discusses the electromagnetic design process of a 10 kW generator for a direct-coupled
wind turbine application. An Axial flux permanent magnet synchronous machine (AFPMSM) is the
most suitable because of their high compactness and their high torque to weight ratio. A structural
design analytical model is presented considering the fundamental electromagnetic laws governing this
type of machines. It is used to evaluate a wide range of design parameters for each specification
considered. Taking into account the geometrical details of the pre-dimensioned machine, a more
complex analytical model of the flux density is developed. A three dimensional (3D) finite element
analysis (FEA) is performed to validate the analytical model and to accomplish the machine design. |
