Abstract |
A modelling methodology, applied to PWM DC-DC converters is presented in this paper. Parasitic
resistors have been considered in inductor and in the power supply. A generalised equivalent circuit
based on averaged variables is obtained for the basic structures of DC-DC converters. This circuit and
the associated model are valid for continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode. The
work also contains expressions to detect changes of converter operation mode, and to estimate the value
of diode duty cycle in the case of discontinuous conduction mode. Both equations use only averaged
variables and converter parameters.
A sliding mode controller for regulating the output voltage is also designed in terms of averaged state
variables and converter parameters. The procedure has been applied to a Buck converter. Simulations
under MATLAB-Simulink environment are presented. The results under open loop operation show good
behaviour of the averaged model even in case of strong variation on load or command. Finally, results
obtained under closed loop operation are also illustrated giving a good dynamic response of the designed
controller. |
