Abstract   An application of the transformer-assisted PWM zero-voltage switching pole inverter (TRAP) is described in this paper. The TRAP is based on the auxiliary resonant commutated pole inverter (ARCP), but avoids its disadvantages. This paper describes the converter applicability with a digital control system in a high bandwidth linear motor drive. In order to achieve a high current bandwidth, a cascade control systems will be discussed. The digital realization of a high bandwidth of 2kHz at 40kHz switching frequency and 250kHz resonance frequency displays a big challenge. The theoretical results are verified with a 4.5 kW full-bridge inverter topology. Furthermore EMC measurements are shown.
