Abstract |
The de-ionised water cooling system of a 15 MVA
static frequency converter of the German Railways is driven by a
20 kW induction motor fed by 50 Hz mains. An interruption of
the 50 Hz grid results in a sudden stop of the flow of the cooling
water, and this is accompanied with an overheating and
pressurised steam generation inside the cooling system at high
power dissipation points. Therefore, as a consequence of such a
line interruption the plant presently has to shut down in an
emergency procedure, even if the voltage dip at the 50 Hz side is
only less than 1 second. The proposed UPS delivers energy to
the motor of the pump for the de-ionised water at line voltage
dips via a special converter arrangement from the 220 V battery
of the plant respectively from the 16 2/3 Hz side providing
smooth take-over of power and potential separation while
yielding low freewheeling losses. The converter arrangement
uses a surplus standard variable frequency converter and added
components. |
