Energy For Future Land Transport System The Role Of Power Electronics

| Abstract |
For land transport, electric-, hybrid- and fuel cell
drive systems are an important factor of traffic improvement
and of creation of a better environment.
The end of the cheap oil era is nearing rapidly ; numerous
publications state the 2030’s as possible period with in the
meantime a breakeven between demand and offer that could
take place around 2010-2015. Today’s geopolitical tensions are
probably connected with this future evolution.
The need for alternative energy sources is steadily increasing
together with a better competitively status compared to oil.
Electric-, hybrid-, and fuel cell vehicle are offering the best
possibilities for their use, this most probably on the one side in
conjunction with the dual energy vectors, hydrogen and
electricity and on the other side thanks to the important
reduction of energy consumption connected with thermal
hybrid-electric vehicles. Power electronics is playing a major
role in achieving the best energy economy. |
