Abstract   Switched Reluctance motors are candidates for a wide variety of drive applications. Their description is most often reduced to the simple concept of I characteristics. In contrast to this the machine itself is a real electrical machine and for its correct simulation in Calculation schemes for stationary and transient operation several individual Inductance values of the machines are necessary [1]. In a brief introduction the ideas behind Inductance Calculation in electrical machines are reviewed. On two in cross section identical SWR machine models the Calculation of Inductance values is performed and compared with the experimental readings. Some of the shortcomings of either of the presented methods and possible ideas to overcome the shortcomings are discussed.
