Abstract |
Multi-cellular converters are suitable for applications in the HV range. They are formed from
the inter-connection of individual multi-level converter units. This paper describes the
formation of such converter structures along with a classification system which allows the
many topological variations to be individually identified. Power-flow and power-flow balancing
within these converters is then addressed with attention given to particular methods of
attaining balanced converter operation. results from analysis and simulation of power-flow in
these topologies are discussed along with initial practical results from the laboratory prototype
multi-cellular converter currently under development. |
