Abstract   The paper proposes a method to determine the operating points of a grid-connected PV system based on intersection between generator and load curves and shows that, in particular, for the maximum power point on array characteristic be reached, the equivalent load conductance (ELC), transferred by PWM inverter to the DC side, equals the slope of the line tangent to generator I-V curve in this point. This technique is a very useful aid for designers to dimension circuit components for optimal system performance over full range of irradiance and temperature conditions, while in presence of parasitic parameters. Moreover it can help to exploit the inverter ability to track the maximum power point (MPPT) of the PV generator electrical characteristics without need of additional functional blocks and hardware. Proposed method is experimentally validated showing its effectiveness.
