Abstract   The reverse voltage blocking IGBT is a step toward the integration of the bidirectional switch needed in the construction of matrix converters. It avoids the two supplementary diodes needed with standard IGBTs and the associated voltage drop. This article presents a study of this new component, especially aspects linked with the commutation in matrix converters.
