 Abstract   The paper proposes a new method for the optimal design of switched reluctance drives. The method utilizes Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) to provide good initial designs as a start points for iterative search techniques (optimization algorithms). A major advantage of the method is its quite short response time in obtaining the optimal design.
