Abstract   This paper describes a quasi-resonant PWM soft switching high frequency inverter using Static Induction Transistors(SITs) under fixed frequency mode. It is designed so as to operate at soft switching PWM condition in order to minimize switching losses, EMI noise and electrical dynamic stresses in its switching power devices over wide output power regulation ranges. The operating principle of this inverter and its PWM controlled power regulation procedure are presented for induction heating. In addition to these, the characteristics of this high frequency inverter in the steady state are illustrated in this paper. The inverter using SIT is trially produced for an induction heating power supply and its performance is evaluated and discussed from a practical point of view.
