 Abstract   The paper discusses the finite element method applied to eddy current problems in electromagnetic converters such as transformers, electrical machines and actuators. Both scalar and vector potential formulations are analysed. The finite element equations are expressed using the notion of equivalent magnetic and electric networks coupled via sources. The network models of multiply connected conductors are presented. A squirrel-cage winding and a multi-turn winding composed of solid conductors are also considered.
