A control strategy for a soft-switched bidirectional motor drive with PWM motor voltage synthesis

| Abstract |
This paper presents a control strategy for a bidirectional converter-inverter AC motor drive that retains
PWM motor voltage synthesis with the inclusion of soft switching. Through control of the
bidirectional rectifier mostly sinusoidal current can be drawn from the supply. As a result of the
sinusoidal rectifier current the amount of DC capacitance required in the motor drive is reduced.
Through the application of modern DSP and FPGA technologies the control strategy is realised.
Derivation, simulation and experimental results are presented to support the proposed control method. |
