Abstract   The average thrust of the linear synchronous motors (LSM) is calculated on the basis of a two-dimensional Finite-Element Method (FEM). The LSM under consideration consists of the short primary and the long secondary with various forms. The following secondary configurations has been taken into consideration: permanent magnet segments, salient poles with excitation coils, reluctance type secondary and the equivalent of cylindrical excited form.
