Abstract   This paper deals with a method for monitoring unbalanced conditions in the squirrel cage induction machine resulting from short circuit of a coil in the stator-winding phase. Monitoring is carried out at standstill conditions during the initial process of self-commissioning of inverter-motor components before the start-up of the drive. The method is based on the parameter identification of one-axis induction motor model, which has been derived at dc excitation sequences. Series of electromagnetic parameters such as stator and leakage inductance, rotor time constant, stator resistance are identified by applying sigma-delta modulation of subsequent voltage vector positions along the machine air-gap circumference. Distribution of asymmetric parameters detects faulty conditions. Standard acquisition board with the aid of Matlab processing PC is used for experimentation.
