Abstract   The use of AC motors also in controlled and regulated drives is widely spread by expansion of semiconductor technology. Regulation properties of AC drives are comparable with DC drives especially by feeding of asynchronous and synchronous motors from static frequency converters. Until recently these converters were used only for low voltage. Lately the converters for higher voltage than 3kV are available. These drives are constructed not only for new equipment but also it is possible to use them with advantage by reconstruction of outdated drives. The failures started to occur during operation. The cause of the failures were always switching or failure effects at 6kV feeding network.
