Abstract   This paper presents a new accurate and easy to use technique based on modeling and identification method devoted to extraction of harmonics generated by PWM converters supplying an electrical drive. The technique is designed from the mathematical model describing the signal and a new recursive least error squares identification algorithm . The harmonic parameters which are the frequency, magnitude and phase angle are estimated from the uniformly sampled signal. The technique testing based on computer simulated and experimentally obtained data record processing confirmed the good features of the technique developed and also its performance superiority relatively to the conventional spectral analysis methods such as that of Fourier and z-transform estimation. The proposed method is general enough for any signal. Its application to PWM (Pulse width modulation) waveforms is described here.
