Abstract |
In this study we examine the phenomenon of aging of Metalized PolyPropylene (MPP) film capacitors. The study is performed for three series of capacitors having the same capacitance but different geometry. The three series of capacitors are subjected to electric stresses which consist in passing a strong sinusoidal current through the component under test. The test current is selected in such a way as not to exceed, in the worst of cases, maximum rating temperature of the element, namely 90 °C. Each capacitor is tested separately and the few thousand hours of test show a decrease of the capacitance for the long capacitors. This is due to the fact that, under the same electric stresses, long capacitors heat up more as compared to the flat one. The results of these tests would allow us to have a clear idea about the relationship between the geometry of a metalized polypropylene film capacitors and its reliability. |
