   The Use of UPFC for Unbalance Compensation of Electrical System   [View]

 Abstract   Voltage unbalance typically present in three phase alternative current supply adversely affects power system components connected to the system. This voltage unbalance is generally corrected indirectly by using a shunt compensator. This paper proposes a new method to compensate this unbalance by means of a UPFC series device which is connected to the power supply through transformers. Besides, the harmonic pollution generated by the device will also be filtered. This unbalance compensation is achieved by canceling the zero and negative sequence component of the line voltage. A comparison, in term of power rating, with the shunt compensator is also performed.
