Abstract   The thyristor bridges of the HVDC system generate harmonics on the AC and DC side of the converter station. The DC-side voltage harmonics cause harmonic currents that couple with adjacent telephone lines and induce interference on them. Active DC-side filters are commonly used with the passive filters (in hybrid configurations) to improve the quality and flexibility of filtering. This paper introduces a new algorithm for the control of active DC-side filters and compares it with an existing feedback controller. Practical results of a scale model implementation of the new controller presented. To conclude, the findings of the paper are summarized and future work in the field of HVDC active filter control is discussed.
