This paper describes Single-sided Linear Induction Motors (SLIMs) with short primary members. In
general, this type of SLIM has a solid-plate conductor for the secondary throughout the operating
region. In this study, we propose partial adoption of wound secondary members in the SLIMs in
sections where high driving or braking force is required. Adopting this scheme, desirable
performance, such as thrust force characteristics, can be obtained by applying the proportional
shifting method. Here, we investigate running characteristics including thrust force of SLIMs with
various secondary resistances. Further, we attempt to improve acceleration and deceleration
characteristics of the SLIMs by arranging proper secondary resistances. |
