Abstract |
Energy efficiencies are compared for adjustable speed three phase motor drives in HVAC applications,
at 2.2 kW and 90 kW rated motor output. The comparison includes standard squirrel-cage induction
motors and permanent magnet motors. The drives are controlled with optimal efficiency in the whole
operating area, and it is shown that the energy consumption is typically reduced with 6.7 % in 2.2 kW
drives and 1.7 % in 90 kW drives by replacing the rotor of a standard induction motor with a motor
equipped with surface mounted permanent magnets. |
