Abstract   The paper presents a mathematical model of a three-phase induction machine, suitable for the simulation of machines behaviour under fault conditions. For on-line diagnostic analysis, various developments have been carried out using a complex model based on circuit theory. Unfortunately, the complexity of such a model makes the diagnostic procedure hard and increases the time of computation. The aim of this paper is to develop a model of induction machine with rotor broken bars which, in spite of its simplicity, is able to provide useful indications for diagnostic purposes. The proposed simulation tool, based on the mesh model analysis of the rotor, uses an extension of Park's transformation method to obtain a d-q model of a faulty rotor cage. The simulation results are in agreement with those obtained by the other complex models.
