Abstract |
The demand of lower working voltage for data processing applications has been reqiering more efficient power converters due to the increased current level. The present trend is oriented to the VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) solution which allows to satisfy high performance specifications typical of the aforementioned applications. The evaluation of different configurations of Buck converters for low voltage applications is performed in order to choose a suitable converter configuration for a VRM core. The considered converters operate in hard and soft switching and are equiped with diode and synchronous output rectification. The comparison is made in terms of overall efficiency, power device stresses, electromagnetic emissions and converter sizes. Design guidelines are finally given in order to select the best topology accoring to the specific application. |
