 Abstract   This paper describes usefulness of the TCad circuit simulator as an education tool for ac motor field oriented control teaching. In the example of direct rotor field oriented control (RFOC) of induction machine, a constant gain observer design is studied at observer parameter estimation errors (+/- 50%). Parameter sensitivity analysis is used for evaluation of observer flux component errors and their influence on field orientation performance. Functionality of the TCad simulator is demonstrated by modelling power electronic, machine and control tasks of the drive. This global model is used to verify the RFOC observer based drive system at normal and detuned conditions.
