Abstract |
Danfoss Drives A/S and Aalborg University, Institute of Energy Technology started in 1997 a new and
unique collaboration agreement which today world-wide set new standards for collaboration between
industry and university. A complete research and education programme in power electronics and drives was
first planned for a two years duration but later on the Ministry of Education in Denmark added the fundings
so it will now have a duration of four years. The main goal in the programme is to attract more students
to the multidisciplinary discipline power electronics and drives by offering them a world class curriculum
by world class teachers in the area. At the same time four Ph.D.-students do research in power electronics
and drives at the university. During the four years distinguished professors visit the university, give
advanced courses in their speciality area and stimulate the students by new ideas. A new curriculum in
power electronics and drives is also now being implemented at the university, based on courses developed
together with professors from the programme. An other goal has been to strengthen the research team in
the area by establishing new contacts, new research areas and give the team new ideas. Finally, training and
education of engineers in industry are also offered in the programme. After 2½ years the programme is
world-wide recognized in the power electronics society and many well-known professors ask for the
possibility to join the programme. About ten professors have until now visited the university. An
outstanding curriculum has been established in power electronics and drives. The number of students has
increased and the research team in power electronics and drives has more than twenty members. A high
level of research activity is now going on. Curriculums from guest professors are being collected for a book
within the subjects of Power Electronics and Drives. |
