Abstract |
Reactive power compensators have been extensively used from the start, in the history of electrical
transmission and distribution. Nowadays, the rigid traditional capacitor banks are incorporating
electronic systems that provide flexible reactive power flow. Thyristor Controlled Reactors have
become popular in this context, not only in distribution systems but also at utility level. These
nonlinear topologies produce harmonic distortion, which should be limited according to power
transmission quality. A new topology with reduced harmonic injection is proposed and evaluated once
the state of existing technology is reviewed. |
