 Abstract   The various characteristics are described of voltage dips due to short-circuit faults in the electric power system. These voltage dips are notorious for their adverse effect on the operation of singlephase and three-phase power-electronic converters. Based on a classification of three-phase unbalanced dips, a testing protocol is proposed. The testing protocol may be applied to, among others, existing equipment, prototypes of new equipment, and control algorithms in an early development stage.
