Abstract |
The present status of high power semiconductor devices is described followed by an outlook on possible device improvements in the future. Large phase-control thyristors today regulate powers in excess of 1500 MW per single installation and are constantly being improved to facilitate their application. In the region of =< 1 MW many new turn-off devices are entering the field of power semiconductor components and are competing against each other as well as against conventional solutions. The basic characteristics and limitations of these devices are described. |
