Thyristor converters are installed in H.V.D.C. stations, d.c. sources, solar power conversion systems, etc. But the lag current flows due to line commutation and reactive power is necessarily involved. While a converter usinq Gate Turn Off thyristor (GTO converter) can operate under the neqative phase anqle, so the lead current flows. We made a model GTO converter controlled by a microcomputer, and obtained reasonable characteristics. The experimental results show that a GTO converter connected in series to a thyristor converter can compensate the reactive power. |
