Abstract |
Static VAR compensators (SVC) are used in electrical transmission systems, to improve system behaviour. One application is the limitation of overvoltages. In this paper the problem of overvoltages is reduced to overvoltages with fundamental frequency, caused for instance by load rejections. SVC with Thyristor Controlled Reactors (TCR) and Thyristor Controlled Saturated Reactors (TCSR) are able to reduce these overvoltages. It is shown by digital simulation, that SVC with TCSR have a better overload capability than those working with TCR. As a second advantage the rated power of the TCSR thyristor valves is much lower compared with the valves of a TCR. |
